Authors

Theresa M. Campo, DNP, APRN, FAANP, FAAN, is vice president of accreditation, conference, & education for the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Previously, she was chair of the Department of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), director of the Emergency Nurse Practitioner Track, and an associate clinical professor at Drexel University. Clinically, she is board-certified as a family nurse practitioner and worked part-time as a nurse practitioner in southern New Jersey. 

Keith A. Lafferty, MD, FAAEM, received his BA in biology cum laude from Holy Family University in 1989 and his MD from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1994. At the completion of his training, his colleagues bestowed upon him the “Senior Resident Teaching” award. Following his residency in emergency medicine and a faculty fellowship in critical care, he spent ten years in full-time academia as a medical student director and a critical care director. Dr. Lafferty is the former co-director of emergency medicine at Gulf Coast Medical Center, director of fire-based EMS in Fort Myers, Florida, adjunct assistant professor of emergency medicine at Temple University, board member of the Holy Family University Pre-Medical Committee, board member of the Holy Family University President’s Advisory Committee and Board of Trustees member elect. As a physician, Dr. Lafferty specializes in emergency medicine and practices in both Philadelphia and Fort Myers, Florida. As an author, he has written numerous chapters and manuscripts, mostly having to do with critical care, emergency medicine and procedures dealing with both specialties. He has presented many of his research papers at the local and national levels. Because of his training, practice, and teaching in both emergency and critical care medicine, he passionately advocates the hybridization of these specialties in caring for the sickest of patients.  

Thomas G. Costantino, Jr., MD, FAAEM, received his BS in anthropology–zoology from the University of Michigan, graduating magna cum laude. He received his MD from the University of Michigan Medical School. He completed his emergency medicine residency at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and stayed to become their first emergency ultrasound fellow. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine and Advanced Emergency Medicine Ultrasonography through the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He previously worked at Drexel University College of Medicine and is currently a Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University where he is Chief of the Division of Emergency Ultrasound. Dr. Costantino has had the privilege of receiving several awards for excellence in teaching as well as serving in different leadership positions in different national medical organizations and peer-reviewed journals. He has published numerous scholarly articles relating to the field of emergency point-of-care ultrasound. He would like to extend a special thanks to Katie for her video and photo editing assistance.  

Jacob W. Ufberg, MD, received his BA in the biological basis of behavior from the University of Pennsylvania, graduating magna cum laude. He received his MD from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. He completed his emergency medicine residency at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and then returned to Temple to join the Department of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Ufberg is a professor of emergency medicine at Temple and served as the director of the Temple University Hospital Emergency Medicine Residency Program for 18 years. Dr. Ufberg currently serves as the Associate Dean for Admissions at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. Dr. Ufberg has published extensively in the emergency medicine literature and has lectured broadly on numerous emergency medicine topics. He has held national leadership positions related to emergency medicine education and is a past recipient of the Honored Professor Award from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine Alumni Association and the Program Director of the Year Award from the American Academy of Emergency Medicine Resident and Student Association. 

Tenell Zahodnik, DMSc, MPAS, PA-C, CAQ-EM earned her BS in Biology from Abilene Christian University, graduating magna cum laude. She completed her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Texas Medical Branch and later obtained her Doctor of Medical Science from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions, with a focus in Healthcare Professions Education. She also holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Emergency Medicine. Dr. Zahodnik currently serves as the Lead APP for the Emergency Department at Hendrick Health in Abilene, Texas. She is an Assistant Professor and active clinical preceptor with the Hardin-Simmons University (HSU) PA Program, and she additionally serves on faculty for the HSU Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) program. A committed member of the Society of Emergency Medicine PAs (SEMPA) since 2017, she is, at the time of this publication, the Immediate Past President of SEMPA and the co-chair of its Education Committee.
