Elizabeth Ann Williams, PhD, MDiv is Dean of the Allied Health Division and Professor of Public Health at Baptist Health Sciences University. Dr. Williams received her PhD and MA degrees in Applied Anthropology with an emphasis in Medical Anthropology from the University of Kentucky (UK). She received her BA degree, also in Anthropology, from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Williams holds graduate reading certificates in Behavioral Science and Women’s Studies from UK and has a M.Div. degree in Theology/Ministry from Vanderbilt University Divinity School. Dr. Williams is a licensed pastor and Provisional Elder in the United Methodist Church. After receiving her doctorate, Dr. Williams served on the faculty in the Department of Anthropology and Geography at Georgia State University (GSU), as a senior public health official and inaugural Director of Disparity Elimination for the Tennessee Department of Health, as a senior-level healthcare administrator with the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, part of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and as Interim Dean of the College of Public Service and Professor of Public Health at Tennessee State University. Noted for her work in eliminating cancer health disparities, health equity, and community-engaged research, Dr. Williams authored the book, Black Women and Breast Cancer: A Cultural Theology (2019), co-authored and co-edited the book, Diversity and Cultural Competence in the Health Sector: Ebola Effected Countries in West Africa (2021) and has published more than a dozen scholarly papers. She has served as an investigator on more than $2.5M in funded research and applied projects and has presented her research to national and international audiences.
