Congratulations to four Springer Publishing authors who will be inducted into the AAN 2013 Class of Fellows: Leslie Neal-Boylan, Nelma Shearer, Sandra Ryan, and Mary Ellen Glasgow!

The American Academy of Nursing (AAN) selected 172 nurse leaders for induction as Fellows in the Academy. The 40th annual meeting of AAN will be held on October 19, 2013 in Washington, DC, where the selected nurses will be inducted into the Academy as Fellows and honored for their accomplishments. There are more than 2,000 nurse leaders in the Academy and they consist of hospital and government administrators, college deans, and renowned scientific researchers in fields of education, management, practice, policy and research. The Fellows, with the new inductees, represent all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and nineteen countries.

Leslie Neal-BoylanLeslie Neal-Boylan, PhD, RN, CRRN, APRN, FNP-BC, (and soon FAANP), is an author of Nurses With Disabilities: Professional Issues and Job Retention, Professor and Graduate Coordinator at Southern Connecticut State University, and former Associate ProfessoNurses with Disabilitiesr of Nursing at Yale University and Marymount University, where she co-chaired the AD nursing program. She has extensive experience in family practice, chronic care, and internal medicine, with current practice as an FNP at Care Medica, CT. She is well published in the literature, peer-reviewed journals and books, including the recent Clinical Case Studies in Home Health Care (2011) and a 2005 volume that won the AJN book of the year award in the medical-surgical category.


Nelma SchererNelma B. C. Shearer, PhD, RN, (and soon FAANP), Nursing Knowledgeauthor of Nursing Knowledge and Theory Innovation: Advancing the Science of Practice, is an Associate Professor at the Arizona State University (ASU) College of Nursing, and is a Co-Director of the ASU Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence. Dr. Shearer has received 14 awards for her outstanding scholarship and research.


Sandra RyanSandra Ryan, MSN, CPNP, FAANP, author of Convenient Care Clinics: The Essential Guide to Retail Clinics for Clinicians, Managers, and Educators, is the first chief NP officer in the convenient care industry and founding officer at Take Care Health Systems. She currently leads 1,300 NPs and PAs who practice at Take Care Clinics, walk-in clinics at 360 Walgreens drugstores in 19 states. Ms. Ryan has also played an integral role in the development and implementation of integrated technology, quality assurance programs and evidence-based guidelines to create a consistent patient-focused experience for those who seek treatment at Take Care Clinics.

Convenient Care Clinics

In addition, Ryan serves as Chair of the Clinical Advisory Board of the Convenient Care Association (CCA), where she was instrumental in developing the CCA's Quality and Safety Standards and implementing a third-party certification process for these standards. To address the educational needs of NPs inconvenient care, Ms. Ryan orchestrated the first Retail Clinician Education Congress, fostering camaraderie and support within the NP community for this emerging model of health care. She is a highly decorated Air Force Officer and is a nationally certified NP.


Mary Ellen GlasgowMary Ellen Smith Glasgow, PhD, RN, ACNS-BC, (and soon FAANP), author of Role Development for Doctoral Advanced Nursing Practice, is an Associate Professor with Tenure and Associate Dean for Undergraduate Nursing & Health Professions Programs, MSN Programs & Continuing Nursing Education at Drexel University in Philadelphia, and a Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellow. She was also selected to attend the prestigious Bryn Mawr College and HERS Mid-America Summer Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration, Dr. Glasgow teaches the DNP Role Practicum course (among Doctoral Advancedother courses taught). In her role as Associate Dean she oversees 18 academic programs with greater than 2500 students. In addition, Dr. Glasgow developed Drexel's three undergraduate nursing programs and served on Drexel University's Doctor of Nursing Practice Planning Committee. She also oversees the Continuing Nursing Division which hosts three to four national conferences per year. Dr. Glasgow is the Associate Editor for Oncology Nursing Forum and is an ANCC Board-Certified Clinical Nurse Specialist in Adult Health. She is a Trustee for the Princeton Health Care System in Princeton, New Jersey.
