This book presents the basics of leadership and management for nurses -- what is essential in order to effectively motivate and educate individuals to achieve the set goals of a group, team, or organization in health care. The basic components of management and leadership theory are described, such as effective communication, analyzing a problem, conflict resolution, and time management. Extensive simulation exercises provide learners with an opportunity to observe, experience, and carry out new behaviors in a safe environment. Reviews
"What sets Dr. Elaine LaMonica Rigolosi's newest edition of her well written book above the rest...[is that] she draws on such masters of organizational and communication theory as Hersey and Blanchard, Argyris, Maslow, and Hertzberg. Too often, in a rush to mention the latest and the newest, authors leave out some of the best because they are considered 'passe'....Dr. Rigolosi's case studies and exercises smack of realism. Reviewing them, the reader can imagine him or herself in what sometimes feels like the cauldron of a modern healthcare setting. For theory, practice, old masters, latest research, easy to read, thoughtful, and practical this book has it all. Dr. Rigolosi believes learning is a lifelong experience....Through her book, she makes learning accessible."
--Harriet Forman, EdD, RN, CNAA, Formerly, Executive Director of Nursing Spectrum
