THE EVIDENCE THAT INFORMS RESEARCH, POLICY, AND PRACTICE

  • How Do We Assess How Violent an Offender Will Be?
  • What Is the Likelihood of a Future Incident?
  • How Do We Counsel Victims of Violence?
  • What Are the Incidence Rates of Violence and Recidivism?
  • How Can We Improve Our Clinical Practice with Victims and Offenders?

We all face the difficult problem of understanding and treating the perpetrators and victims of violence behavior. Violence and Victims is the evidence-based resource that informs clinical decisions, legal actions, and public policy.

Now in its 24th year, Violence and Victims is a peer-reviewed journal of theory, research, policy, and clinical practice in the area of interpersonal violence and victimization. It seeks to facilitate the exchange of information on this subject across such professional disciplines as psychology, sociology, criminology, law, medicine, nursing, psychiatry, and social work.

Special emphasis is given to the reporting of original research on violence-related victimization within, and outside of, the family; the etiology and perpetration of violent behavior; health care research related to interpersonal violence and to trauma; legal issues; and implications for clinical interventions. Occasionally, there are special issues dealing with specific topics and relevant books are often reviewed.
