Job Opening: New Business Development Sales Manager

OVERVIEW

Springer Publishing Company is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic sales manager. This position, reporting to the Licensing & New Business Development Sales Director, is responsible for developing and executing specific sales campaigns with direct follow up with prospects to close sales across all content formats and platforms. We are looking for an innovative individual with an entrepreneurial spirit who can drive strong revenue growth and aggressively close sales within specific business segments. This individual must possess the insight and demonstrated ability to creatively find ways to research target markets, develop prospect lists, qualify prospects to close sales and generate consistent revenue. This individual must be agile and able to adapt to changing market conditions and customer needs as well as possess a solid track record of creating new business opportunities and growing revenue.

While experience in health-related publishing and the higher education industry is a plus, the ideal candidate will have solid sales and new business development experience and a proven track record selling print products and content-based digital products and services into specific Special Sales Channels to serve the needs of students, professionals, partners and corporations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Achieve or exceed budgeted sales revenue goals.
  • Drive sales growth by executing monthly sales campaigns including direct phone call follow up to expand the portfolio of products sold within an identified territory defined as Special Sales channels including:
    • Associations
    • Continuing Education providers
    • Government
    • Other Special sales Channels serving conferences and Springer Publishing’s authors
  • Foster long-standing customer relationships through a high level of interaction including site visits/conferences/presentations/telephone/email.
  • Manage aspects of book sales, licensing and new business development from target market segmentation, opportunity identification and relationship building to business model development, contract negotiations, account management and product delivery.
  • Work with Sales Director to develop and execute monthly marketing campaigns that result in sufficient pipeline building to meet all sales objectives.
  • Build customer relationships and deliver solutions that meet the customers’ needs and create value. Nurture and close new business leads, identify and pursue upselling opportunities.
  • Internal collaboration: Establish and build strong working relationships with internal Springer Publishing departments and team members to ensure the successful delivery of services to our customers. Upon confirmation of the business by the customer, work closely with all internal stakeholders to properly fulfill the project/request.
  • Market Research & Knowledge: Conduct analysis of customer needs and market trends to gain a clear understanding of how to position products/services.
  • Develop and maintain awareness/understanding of market, products, competitors and trends. Gather and share information on market issues and trends to develop effective sales strategies.
  • Make recommendations for new products, new business models based on market research and knowledge.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years of successful strategic sales and/or licensing experience across a multi-channel, multi-discipline organization.
  • Direct experience selling to associations, government organizations focused on healthcare, and continuing education providers will be a significant benefit.
  • Solid understanding and expertise regarding the use of SalesForce to successfully manage a sales territory to meet revenue objectives.
  • Influence and Persuasion to sell ideas, gain support and buy-in.
  • Customer centric orientation and well versed in Salesforce.com & Microsoft 365 is preferred.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills. Ability to tailor communication and presentation style to affectively influence and persuade others to make commitments at all levels.
  • Experience in selling educational and/or research content products and services to professionals and third-party providers.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires travel and the ability to drive and fly to destinations as required.
