Job Opening: Digital Media Sales Representative

Overview

Springer Publishing Company is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic sales representative. This position, reporting to the Director of New Business Development and Licensing, is responsible for selling recruitment and display advertising within Springer’s commercial websites, online magazines, and print journals as well as promotional services such as national email and lead generation campaigns. This individual will also be responsible for growing and maintaining a robust pipeline, managing existing accounts, managing fulfillment of ad campaigns, ensuring accuracy of monthly reporting and managing the promotional ad campaigns necessary to build the business. We are looking for an innovative individual with an entrepreneurial spirit who can drive strong revenue growth across the business. This individual must possess the insight and demonstrated ability to creatively find ways to increase revenue while adapting to changing market conditions and customer needs. It will be critical to demonstrate a solid track record of building and managing an accurate pipeline, closing new business opportunities and growing revenue.

While experience in health-related publishing, nursing and the higher education industry is a plus, the ideal candidate will have solid digital advertising sales, recruitment advertising new business development experience and a proven track record selling innovative promotional packages to meet our client’s needs.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Revenue Generation
    • Achieve or exceed budgeted sales revenue goals
    • Manage all aspects of Digital Media (advertising and promotional) sales including target market segmentation, opportunity identification, relationship building, pipeline building and reporting, contract negotiations, closing sales, ad content collection, product/service delivery, forecasting and weekly/monthly sales reporting.
    • Pre-sale - Conduct analysis / discovery of customer needs and market trends to gain a clear understanding of how to position products/services to maximize results. Develop proposals for products and services that meet identified client needs.
    • Post-sale - Analyze advertising results vs client needs to ensure that Springer’s services are delivering the measurable results required by our clients.
    • Build customer relationships and deliver solutions that meet the customers’ needs and create value.
    • Develop and maintain awareness/understanding of market, products, competitors and trends. Gather and share information on market issues and trends to develop effective sales strategies. Based on market knowledge and client requirements make recommendations for new products and business models.
  • Account Management and Ads Sales Operations
    • Upon confirmation of an advertising order by the customer, ensure that all required content and artwork is provided by client, work closely with the Advertising Product Manager and marketing to accurately deliver advertising and/or promotion services.
    • Create new orders in Salesforce and add all relevant details for upload to company’s ERP (Acumen)
    • Upload monthly orders in company’s ERP for billing and check for accuracy
    • Manage a Print and Digital advertising calendar to coordinate client ad placements in coordination with Production and Marketing.
    • Develop Ad Sales Promotion calendar and work with Marketing to confirm deployment of weekly promotions. (Shared with product manager and Director of LBD)

Qualifications and Competency Requirements

  • 5+ years of successful online and print advertising sales experience. Experience in selling advertising and promotion products and services.
  • Business acumen demonstrated by making sound business decisions based on a solid understanding of Springer’s commercial websites, content and strategic objectives aligned with the objectives of clients and prospects.
  • Influence and persuasion to sell ideas, gain support and buy-in.
  • Innovation and creativity with a focus on contributing to an environment which is open to new or radical alternatives to traditional methods, approaches, products and business models.
  • Market/customer centric orientation and well versed in Salesforce.com
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills. Ability to tailor communication and presentation style to affectively influence and persuade others to make commitments at all levels.

Physical requirements

This position requires travel and the ability to drive and fly to destinations as required.
