Job Opening: Digital Marketing Director

Springer Publishing, a professional and academic publishing company specializing in nursing, medicine, and behavioral science content, is looking for a highly motivated strategic leader to drive customer acquisition and B2C online success. As a company with a strategic initiative to create strong, direct relationships with our end customers, we have created this new director-level position to elevate our companywide digital marketing capabilities.

Reporting to the VP of Marketing, the Digital Marketing Director will be directly responsible for building and executing the digital marketing strategy. Leadership, collaboration, and communication skills are critical attributes of this role. In this exciting role, you will be empowered to develop strategies for utilizing marketing websites, online advertising, social media, and more to increase brand awareness, meet ecommerce and lead generation goals, and improve customer engagement. The position will manage two direct reports, as well as an outside development agency, bloggers, and graphic design and social media freelancers. In addition, you will work closely with colleagues in Marketing, Editorial, Sales, Customer Service, and other departments to support all ecommerce, promotional, and lead-generation initiatives.


  • Develop and execute a comprehensive and integrated digital marketing strategy.
  • Direct and manage marketing websites, direct e-commerce and promotional activity, marketing content, and continuous enhancement of features, usability, mobile optimization, and functionality to meet and surpass annual web sales, lead generation, and traffic goals.
  • Direct marketing presence, including product copy and onsite advertising (AMS).
  • Direct reports: 2 fulltime employees plus outside web development agency and other freelancers and service providers.
  • Manage SEM, SEO, remarketing, paid social, and all online advertising, including Amazon AMS, Google AdWords, LinkedIn, and more.
  • Utilize web analytics and A/B testing to optimize landing pages, forms, and ecommerce processes to maximize conversions, using Google Analytics, Magento, Marketo, and other systems and tools.
  • Build a robust content marketing and social media marketing program, collaborating with internal content creators in Marketing and Editorial.
  • Work closely with Sales (using Marketo and Salesforce) to generate, nurture, qualify, and pass on sales leads.
  • Develop strong inbound, content, and community marketing program, harnessing company produced content and existing relationships (authors, end users, associations/societies, etc.), and working closely with the product marketing teams.
  • Work closely with Digital Development department to ensure strong interlinking between marketing websites and content delivery platform, and to ensure strong and consistent marketing messaging on all online platforms.
  • Support product marketing teams, who are responsible for email marketing deployment, to create and optimize landing pages and conversions, and to ensure successful campaigns.
  • Lead the organization in utilizing digital marketing technologies and techniques to drive the best possible outcomes across the business.


  • 10+ years of progressive digital marketing management experience, including B2C, ecommerce, and mobile.
  • Strong project management skills in the web development space.
  • Demonstrable success (through samples and analytics) in developing and executing digital marketing programs and campaigns from strategy through execution.
  • Passion for analytics and measurement, meeting KPIs, and focus on ROI.
  • Experience working with/managing internal and/or external web development teams.
  • Strong sense of visual design.
  • Thorough understanding of e-commerce websites and their functionality.
  • Deep understanding of SEO/SEM, PPC, and retargeting specifically.
  • Fluency in Google Analytics, Google AdWords, and other applicable tools.
  • Proven success creating online communities and generating engagement and conversions through Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms.
  • Extensive knowledge and successful use of A/B testing and landing page optimization.
  • Demonstrable success in driving conversions through content marketing.
  • Strong prioritization skills required, with the ability to identify and focus on big opportunities.
  • In-depth knowledge of e-commerce and user experience best practices, including mobile.
  • Experience with a marketing automation platform (Marketo preferred) and CRM ( preferred).
  • Exceptional attention to detail, a highly organized approach, and a commitment to meeting deadlines.
  • Experience marketing apps and digital products.
  • Proficiency in leveraging vendor/seller advertising programs.
  • Familiarity with publishing and/or the nursing, healthcare, and academic markets ideal.
